Once again Yad b’Yad – Vancouver’s first Jewish LGBTTQ group – welcomed hundreds of visitors to the Jewish community booth at PR!DE’s Sunset Beach Festival, last Sunday, July 31st. Partnering up with more than 10 community agencies and organizations, the booth was packed with great activities and swag – from branded condoms, sunglasses and stickers to Israeli-favourite snack, Bissli!
With lots of engaged visitors curious to know more about Israel and the reality of the LGBTTQ community there, our booth theme was spot-on. We also had great conversations about what it means to be Jewish and LGBTTQ.
Our message this year was clear: Israel is a safe place to visit, to travel and to be who you are. It is the only country in the Middle East where one is not only able to experience the largest PR!DE, if not the only one; but also a country in which the LGBTTQ community, whether Jewish, Muslim, Christian or other, is safe from discrimination and in which a prevalent State-sponsored protection of their rights and freedoms is evident across society; at work, in academic institutions and even in the army.
A big thank you to all our community partners and great volunteers for a successful and fun day! With their help and engagement we were able to once more show our support for Vancouver’s LGBTTQ community and to show off some Israeli PR!DE!
