The Christian world is sending mixed messages. Countless voices from within influential Christian spheres are communicating viewpoints and ideas concerning Israel, the Jewish people, Christian/Biblical Zionism, and the role of Christians and the Church. Some of these voices are trustworthy, Biblically and historically solid, and respect and reflect God’s revelation, heart and Word.
Many others are unreliable, deceptive, flow from the mis-use of Scriptures, and demonstrate contempt for God and His eternal Word. In so doing they condemn Christian/Biblical Zionism, often present “another gospel”, sow seeds of doubt and confusion in the Church, and delegitimize and demonize Israel and the Jewish people. Intentionally or otherwise, they stand in solidarity with the antisemitic Palestinian Authority and terrorist organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, Boko Haram, and ISIS, and Islamist regimes dedicated to a Middle East with no Israel. Yet, these false voices emanate from within “Bible believing” Christian environments and claim historical credibility and Biblical authority. Sabeel is one such organization–active in Canada and coming to a church, conference, or college, near you.
It is easy to see how they could appeal to well-intentioned Christians seeking truth, when, according to their website, “the word “Sabeel” is Arabic for ‘the way‘ and also a ‘channel‘ or ‘spring‘ of life-giving water. Sabeel also works to promote a more accurate international awareness regarding the identity, presence and witness of Palestinian Christians as well as their contemporary concerns. It encourages individuals and groups from around the world to work for a just, comprehensive and enduring peace informed by truth and empowered by prayer and action.” http://www.sabeel.org/ourstory.php
These voices exert “educated”, subtle and persuasive influence on audiences, many of whom are unknowledgeable and ill-prepared when faced with ideas which are based on untruth, modified history, political agenda, blatant or hidden antisemitism, and contempt for the authority and reliability of the Scriptures. A common Biblical word of warning applies–Beware!
Examples of trustworthy voices:
Israel is central to God’s plan for mankind. Pick up your Bible and leaf through the pages. It won’t be long before you see Israel. God chose to reveal Himself to the world through the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. We were blessed through them to receive the Word of God; our Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus); and salvation. While some Christians have the idea that God is finished with Israel and is now only embracing the Church, that is not God’s idea.
