This week marks the 35th anniversary of the 1984 Sikh massacre, a violent series of pogroms targeting innocents in India. On the anniversary of this atrocity, CIJA joins our friends in the Sikh community in honouring and commemorating the thousands of innocent men, women and children murdered during those dark days in 1984. The massacre of Sikhs was a deliberate and brutal act, and to this day those responsible for these horrific attacks have not been brought to justice. Only by remembering and condemning these events, and seeking justice for the innocent lives lost, can we hope to avoid similar atrocities in the future.
The Sikh community in Canada and around the world works to promote human rights, freedom and democracy to help ensure future generations inherit a better world. Canada’s Jewish community continues to stand in solidarity with our Sikh friends, during this week of commemoration and always.
