Response to Statement by Toronto Mayor Rob Ford

Toronto, ON – In response to a statement issued by the office of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford regarding a photo taken at the 2012 New Year’s Levee at Toronto City Hall, UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, together with its advocacy arm, The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, issued the following statement:

“We appreciate Mayor Ford’s clarification today. Moreover, we understand the circumstances in which elected officials meet with thousands of constituents every year, and that it is effectively impossible to vet each individual,” said David Spiro, Greater Toronto Co-Chair of The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. “We want to thank Mayor Ford for his quick response to this matter, and reiterate the fact that we consider the Mayor a true friend of Toronto’s Jewish community.”
