PRESS RELEASE: CIJA welcomes new National Co-Chairs Joel Reitman and Jeff Rosenthal; Extends heartfelt thank you to outgoing Chair David J. Cape.
Ottawa, ON — Today, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) has confirmed the appointment of Joel Reitman and Jeff Rosenthal as National Co-Chairs of the CIJA Board of Directors, succeeding David J. Cape.
“In my capacity as Chair of CIJA’s Nominations Committee, it is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Joel Reitman and Jeff Rosenthal as National Co-Chairs of CIJA’s Board of Directors. Jeff and Joel are exemplary leaders who have earned the trust and confidence of our community by consistently demonstrating their leadership, passion for our cause, and understanding of the intricacies of the range of issues faced by our community.
“Jeff and Joel have served CIJA faithfully and effectively in a number of capacities, most recently as the Co-Chairs of CIJA’s development efforts where under their leadership CIJA was able to deliver four extremely successful Words & Deeds Leadership Awards Dinners across the country. I am confident that they will steer CIJA’s advocacy efforts and ensure that the perspective of organized Canadian Jewry is reflected in the public policy process with great skill and with the spirit of inclusivity.
“On behalf of the Committee, the Board of Directors, and CIJA staff, I would also like to offer the warmest thanks to outgoing Chair David J. Cape. Over the last four years, David has been an inspiring and capable leader. His passion for our issues, dedication to our community and to Israel, and confident, inclusive, and respectful leadership style have endeared him to our advocacy audiences, community leadership, and our constituents from coast-to-coast. I am grateful that David will remain on the Board as Immediate-Past-Chair, so that CIJA continues to benefit from his wisdom.”
–David Koschitzky, Chair of CIJA’s Nominations Committee
“It has been an honour and privilege to serve our community as the CIJA National Chair. An important test of an organization and its leadership is how effectively it is able to transition between leaders. On this point, it would be difficult to overstate my confidence in Joel and Jeff’s leadership abilities. In addition to having earned my deepest respect for what they do for our community, they have become dear friends who I know – by virtue of the passion they lend to the task – will be tremendously successful to the benefit of the community, Canadians in general, and of course the Jewish state.
“I am very grateful to all CIJA Directors who served with me, CIJA staff who supported me, and the thousands and thousands of community members who contribute to CIJA’s work every day. They inspire me and I will always appreciate the honour they bestowed upon me by allowing me to serve this wonderful organization.”
–David J. Cape, Outgoing Chair, now Immediate Past Chair of CIJA’s Board of Directors
“Having enjoyed contributing to the organization in a variety of roles since its inception, we know firsthand the important work undertaken by CIJA on behalf of our community. We are honoured to be appointed Co-Chairs of the CIJA Board and look forward to advancing a range of issues – from domestic social policy to combatting antisemitism; from building support for Israel to deepening the ties between Israelis and Canadians – as Co-Chairs of this formidable organization.
“On a personal note, we would like to express our deepest thanks to David J. Cape whose leadership has set the tone for our mandate. Under his leadership, we have witnessed the organization take important strides forward, and will work hard to ensure that the momentum continues.”
