Toronto, ON — Today, Henry (Hank) Rosenbaum, Holocaust Survivor and former Co-President of the Canadian Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Descendants (CJHSD), passed away.
“The loss of Hank Rosenbaum will be felt throughout the Canadian Survivor community,” said CJHSD Co-President Pinchas Gutter. “Hank worked tirelessly to ensure the well-being of Survivors in Canada. His extraordinary leadership and dedication are an inspiration to me and to so many others in the community.”
“This loss, like others we have witnessed recently, reminds us of the importance of Holocaust education. As Survivors – and descendants of Survivors – we must make every effort to bear witness to the atrocities of the Holocaust. We owe it to the memory of those who were murdered, those who survived, and those – like Hank – who paved the way for us to deliver our message.”
“Serving alongside Hank at the CJHSD for eight years, I became acutely aware of his unwavering dedication to the Survivor community in Toronto and across the country,” said Sidney Zoltak, Immediate Past Co-President of the CJHSD. “During that time, Hank became much more than a colleague to me. He became my friend, and he will be missed. May the next generation be inspired to continue his commendable work.”
“With Hank Rosenbaum’s passing, our community has lost a passionate advocate for Survivors,” said David J. Cape, Chair of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA). “Hank’s experience during the Holocaust made him witness to a period of unimaginable human suffering, but the legacy of his life transcends the catastrophe of the Shoah. His relentless mission to seek justice for Holocaust Survivors – including securing restitution for property seized by the Nazi regime – serves as a reminder that we all must be a voice for those who can no longer speak. May his memory be for a blessing.”
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) is the advocacy agent of the Jewish Federations of Canada-UIA.
The Canadian Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Descendants (CJHSD) is a grassroots organization dedicated to advocating on behalf of its members and represents Canadian survivors at the Jewish Material Claims Conference. The CJHSD is an independent organization affiliated with CIJA.
