Halifax, NS – In a 12-hour period starting late Saturday night, at least 17 Nova Scotians were killed during a senseless shooting rampage across multiple rural areas of the province. Among the victims were a teacher, a nurse, and an RCMP officer.

Upon learning this distressing news, Naomi Rosenfeld, Executive Director of the Atlantic Jewish Council (AJC), and Marilyn Kaufman, AJC President issued the following statement:

“The Atlantic Jewish community is shocked and grief-stricken by this senseless act of violence. We stand in solidarity with our neighbours during this horrible and sad time, and we thank our heroic first-responders for their swift and courageous response.”

Joel Reitman and Jeffrey Rosenthal, CIJA National Co-Chairs, added:

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims, their families, and their loved ones, as well as the entire community. Tonight, our thoughts are with Nova Scotians in mourning the dead and praying for the injured.”
