Pacific Region

Relationships Matter. That is the motto of the Pacific Region of CIJA.  Professional staff and grassroots advocates from the Pacific Region are continuously developing relationships with the decision-makers and the decision-makers-to-be at the federal, provincial and local levels in order to strengthen British Columbia’s diverse Jewish community. More than 30,000 Jews reside in the province—the majority of which live in the Metro Vancouver area. Since the mid-19th century, B.C.’s Jewish community has played a significant role in the development and growth of Canada’s western-most province. Under the leadership of the Local Partnership Council and in partnership with the Greater Vancouver Jewish Federation, CIJA is the region’s preeminent voice on matters concerning Israel, antisemitism and domestic issues affecting the region’s Jewish community. The Pacific Region works with members of the federal, provincial and municipal governments as well as other community leaders in order to strengthen the Canada-Israel relationship, increase security for the Jewish community, ensure funding for local agencies and foster advocacy efforts on university campuses.
