Bill S-219: An Act to Deter Iran-Sponsored Terrorism, Incitement to Hatred, and Human Rights Violations was defeated in the Senate 44-33 with 5 abstentions on Wednesday evening.
CIJA CEO Shimon Koffler Fogel issued the following statement:
“We are disappointed that Senators were unable to find agreement on such a critical issue. All major federal political parties agree on the need to hold Iran accountable for its sponsorship of terrorism, human rights violations and incitement to hatred. At a time when Iran and its proxies in Syria, Lebanon and Yemen are increasingly belligerent, we urge policy makers to work together to hold Iran accountable for its deeply troubling actions, including recent aggression towards Israel.”
