This month, anti-Israel activists at the University of Waterloo petitioned the Federation of Students (FEDS) to hold a student-wide vote on whether the University should sever its ties with Israeli universities. Hillel Ontario, supported by CIJA, is working closely with pro-Israel students at the University of Waterloo to defeat this outrageous initiative. Should this referendum proceed, it would be yet another example of a student union allowing itself to be hijacked by fringe activists. Regardless of the result, such resolutions have no binding effect on the University’s policies.
Under the leadership of President Hamdullahpur, the University of Waterloo has expanded partnerships with a number of world-class research centres in Israel, including the Technion, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the University of Haifa, and the Weizmann Institute. The University of Waterloo’s dedication to Canadian-Israeli academic ties matches skyrocketing growth in such partnerships at universities across Canada.
Now is the time to speak up and applaud the University of Waterloo for partnering with Israelis. Please take a moment to send President Hamdullahpur an email thanking him for his steadfast commitment to academic ties between the University of Waterloo and Israeli universities.
