On Tuesday, at the Palais des congrès in Montreal, CIJA honoured Montreal entrepreneur and philanthropist Charles Sirois with the prestigious Words & Deeds Leadership Award.
The evening was magical. More than five hundred guests mixed and mingled in a relaxed setting, learned about Israel and CIJA’s work, celebrated the contributions that the Jewish community has been making to Quebec and Canada for more than 250 years, and honoured a distinguished businessman, philanthropist, and community leader.
The most memorable moment of the evening was delivered by Mr. Sirois himself who spoke sincerely, passionately, and eloquently about his fondness for Israel, his admiration for the contributions the Jewish community has made to the world, and his vision for our future.
He asked the audience – comprising established and next-generation Quebec leaders from business, politics, academia, philanthropy, and civil society – to consider emulating the Jewish community by working together on visionary projects that reflect Jewish values that encompass the tenets of his own entrepreneurial and philanthropic philosophy: openness, inclusiveness, and sustainability.
For those of us lucky enough to be in the room, there was no doubt: we were in the presence of a determined honoree with a generous spirit, a caring outlook, and a bold vision. A true leader, and a most worthy Words & Deeds Leadership Award Laureate.
A huge thanks to our generous sponsors, to our partners Jewish Federations of Canada – UIA and Federation CJA, and to all our distinguished guests.
