As Deputy Director, Communications and Public Affairs for CIJA, Steve McDonald serves as a spokesperson for the Jewish community in the national media, prepares written advocacy materials, and offers communications advice to Jewish Federations and campus groups. He also leads CIJA’s effort to build relationships with churches and Christian leaders across Canada. Prior to joining CIJA, he spent ten years working in politics. During this time, he served in the office of a Member of Parliament, on various political campaigns, and as a consultant and federal lobbyist for a private sector firm, Crestview. His work entailed a broad span of activities – including drafting proposed ethics legislation, training Members of Parliament and their staff in communications, conducting polls for political parties and corporations, and advocating policies to government officials on behalf of clients. In both 2010 and 2011, the parliamentary newspaper The Hill Times named him as one of Canada’s “Top 100 Lobbyists” – one of the few members of the list under the age of 30 at the time.
