Montreal, QC – Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard arrived in Israel’s capital Jerusalem today to begin an important commercial mission, the objective of which is to promote the exchange of knowledge, seek opportunities for collaboration, and encourage new business agreements between Quebec and Israel. In response, Rabbi Reuben Poupko and Eta Yudin, respectively Co-Chair and Vice-President of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs-Quebec (CIJA-Quebec), issued the following:.
“Premier Couillard’s trade delegation to Israel is an historical milestone which will significantly contribute to realizing the full potential of Quebec-Israel relations. Quebec was the first Canadian province to ratify agreements with Israel in 1997 and to send a trade delegation to the Jewish state in 2008. The Premier’s delegation is a testimony to the potential that exists for partnerships that produce concrete benefits for both sides. Israel is a highly sought after partner for Quebec’s business and academic communities.”
–Rabbi Reuben Poupko, Co-Chair, CIJA-QC
“CIJA-Quebec is particularly pleased to be able to help organize a special Shabbat dinner tonight in Jerusalem for the Premier and his delegation. Because of their shared values, shared respect for democracy, a mutual embrace of creativity, and a synergy in their respective skills and expertise, Quebec and Israel are obvious and natural partners. The Quebec Jewish community acts as a bridge between both democracies. As a Quebecer, I am proud to be here and look forward to seeing agreements that will not only strengthen the partnership between Quebec and the Jewish state, but also ensure results for the benefit of both societies.”
–Eta Yudin, Vice President, CIJA-QC
