Approximately 200,000 Jews live in the Greater Toronto area (GTA), making it Canada’s largest Jewish population centre. In fact, the GTA is home to over half of the country’s entire Jewish population. Toronto is Canada’s business capital and the political capital of Ontario. GTA Jewry has played an important role in the development of the city and the province. In the GTA, CIJA, in partnership with UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, deals with the provincial and municipal government on issues of Jewish concern, anti-Israel activity on GTA campuses, government funding for Jewish social services, community security, antisemitic incidents and many other Jewish community concerns. CIJA receives direction from the Local Partnership Council, consisting of leading volunteers who serve as the advocacy steering committee for the Greater Toronto area, based on CIJA’s strategic objectives.
