The Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy (CIJA)
CIJA is a non-partisan, umbrella organization for Jewish community advocacy efforts, directing strategies to improve the quality of Jewish life in Canada and abroad, increase support for Israel, and strengthen the Canada-Israel relationship.
As the advocacy agent of UIA Federations Canada, and working with the Canadian Jewish Federations and Regional Communities, CIJA oversees and coordinates the advocacy work of Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC), Canada-Israel Committee (CIC), Quebec-Israel Committee (QIC), National Jewish Campus Life (NJCL) and University Outreach Committee (UOC).
CIJA seeks to identify issues important to the Jewish community and assist in communicating with government, media, community, business, and academic leaders to build understanding and close relationships. CIJA has undertaken research to better understand issues and opinions affecting Jewish community, and — on behalf of the vibrant and varied Jewish community across Canada — works to coordinate, streamline, and direct the strategic, targeted advocacy programming undertaken by our family of agencies.
Created in January 2004, CIJA is an umbrella organization coordinating the advocacy work of established Jewish organizations – among them: Canada-Israel Committee (CIC), dedicated to strengthening the supporting all aspects of the Canada-Israel relationship; Quebec-Israel Committee (QIC), dedicated to communicating issues of Jewish concern to all parts of Quebec society; Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) , working to promote civil discourse, and address incidents of antisemitism and all issues affecting the quality of Jewish life in Canada; and University Outreach Committee creating campus advocacy strategies working with National Jewish Campus Life (NJCL), the voice of students across Canada working to enhance quality of Jewish life on campus.
