On Thursday, February 1, 2018, CIJA met with Poland’s Ambassador to Canada.
We had an in-depth, frank and civil conversation about the Polish law that will make it more difficult to have an honest conversation about the Holocaust. We expressed our view that the legislation is poorly timed, unnecessary, and an affront to the millions who perished on Polish soil during the Holocaust.
We also presented a letter from 4,000 Canadians objecting to the legislation. Thank you to everyone in the community who took action by adding their name to our letter.
During the meeting we also expressed our serious concerns about a proposed bill that would make restitution of property stolen during the Shoah more difficult. We stressed the need for the Polish government to provide fair and just restitution for Survivors and their descendants.
The Ambassador committed to relaying our concerns to the Polish government. We’ll keep you apprised of future developments.
