The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) joins all Canadians in marking National Indigenous Peoples Day, celebrating the heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of Canada’s First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
In keeping with our statement of Jewish solidarity and action following the historic report of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Committee (TRC), CIJA is committed to strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation with our Indigenous friends and neighbours.
The Jewish community knows firsthand how tradition and collective memory can be a powerful catalyst for action and social justice. The story of Canada’s Indigenous peoples is one of pain and tragedy, but also one of strength and resilience.
We are proud to stand with Canada’s diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities at this historic juncture, and look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts to build a brighter future for all of Canadians.
